"All Heart, No Hype"
by Kathy Henderson
"Daytime drama is what it is-- you watch these melodramatic stories unfold. Reality and the show start to blend together. I'm always amazed when people come up and say, 'It's not very good right now, but we know it's going to get better.' In any other field, the audience would just walk away.
(Regarding soap dialogue)"You try to put it into language that sounds like people talking, because a lot of it sounds like it's translated directly from the German. I'm good for one or two takes, and then it starts to become funny.
"I had lunch with a producer from another network once. She said the money probably won't be as good, but we own our shows and you can do nighttime. What kind of nighttime? When she told me I said 'but those shows are worse than the soaps! I wouldn't want to be a guest on those.' Finally she said to me, 'You know what your problem is? You don't like television.'
"I've always maintained that if you don't like what you're doing, it's not going to be any good. I enjoy myself and I enjoy my life."
